Computing

  • Computing has always been a core part of my employment history, from selling, repairing and installing computers through to phone and at-desk support.
  • From previous employment and my architecture studies have given me experience using a wide range of media and design software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, Vectorworks and some experience with Autocad and 3D Studio.
  • Documentation; documenting items from the press and writing documentation for in house programs have given me good experience in Microsoft Office. Studying at Westminster has also helped hone my skills in this regard, researching and writing essays on a variety of topics.

Communications

  • Customer relations – Dealing with customers and clients, from advertising executives through to high street retail, advising and assisting at all levels.
  • Administration skills – general office management in both a retail and corporate environment, organising and cashing up shop tills and banking.
  • Presentations – A large part of the architecture degree revolves around group critiques, both formal and informal. This environment has aided both my confidence explaining a product or idea to a large group and my communication skills.

Teamwork

  • Working in busy retail shop, demanding corporate environments and university group work has given me many opportunities to hone my teamwork skills, from small close-knit teams through to large production teams, working and liasing with people at all levels.

July 2006 – To Date Technology Moves

I work for Technology moves in a varied admin role, aiding the directors in keeping the business organised. When needed I also work in a support role monitoring clients remote systems.

  • Keeping the companies account recorded, ensuring the accounts balance.
  • Generating and distributing invoices for clients and preparing the quarterly and yearly tax returns

September 2001 – March 2004 FrameStore-CFC - Render Support & Camera Tracker

I worked as key member in a small team dedicated to the upkeep and management of the company’s render farm and its users. The farm consisted of 400 dual processor machines split between 3 projects. This role included a period as a Backdraft operator, maintaining and organising data, clips and libraries for Flame and Inferno operators. Responsibilities included:

  • Ensuring the smooth day to day running of the farm, identifying and resolving any issues either with farm machines or operators scenes. Liasing with production, operators and clients to organise farm distribution amongst projects and staff.
  • Writing, maintaining and documenting Perl and C-Shell/Bash scripts and applications designed to run and organise the farm. This also included creating user help files..

As a camera tracker I worked on Dinotopia, a major TV miniseries. My main responsibilities were:

  • Utilising Match mover or Boujou to accurately match movements of a 3d camera to that of real footage and importing information into either Softimage or Maya
  • Setting up any geometry and scene information and final adjustments to prepare the scene for Animators, enhancing or retouching images and generating mattes using Adobe PhotoShop.

Other Employment:

October 2005 – August 2006 Jessops photographic – Salesman

I worked during the Christmas period as a salesman on the digital counter, advising high street customers on various aspects of digital photographic equipment. I worked for Jessops for two periods in total, From October to December as a Christmas employee and then from June until August 06.

June 2004 – September 2004 South Gloucestershire Council - Press Office & Community Safety

I worked as part of a 3 person team in South Gloucestershire Councils press office, my role was to gather and record any news items relating to the Council or any of its related works, as well as answering phone queries from both the press and members of the public wishing to discuss items of news related to the council. In the Community Safety role I worked as a contractor with the councils community safety office to help gather data for the 4 yearly crime and drugs audit. This role involved liasing with various charitable organizations in the area to collect statistics on a variety of subjects, liasing with the police for crime statistics and research in both police and home office databases.

February 2001 – September 2001 FrameStore-CFC - Runner

I worked as part of a dedicated team whose varied tasks and responsibilities supported the day-to-day running of the business. Ensuring both the staff and visiting clients were looked after and satisfied,

June 1997 – December 2000 M2 Bristol - Senior Sales / Computer Technician

Initially employed by M2 as part of the sales team, my role developed into Technical Support as well as Customer Service at a management level. My main responsibilities included:

  • Providing both phone and in person support for both hardware and software issues.
  • Dealing with component manufacturers for warranties.
  • Manufacturing computer systems to customer specification.
  • Advising both retail and corporate customers on PC specifications tailored to their requirements.
  • Cashing up tills and organising weekly banking.

June 1996 – Sept 1996 Geoff Winships Medieval Jousting Company – stunt rider

Worked as a stunt rider for Geoff Winship, riding as a knight in a circus style role, jousting, sword fighting and general acting in front of a large audience.
